RIP:rip is a standardized distance vector routing protocol ,designed for use on smaller networks.Rip was one of the first true distance vector routing protocols, and supported on a wide variety of system .
FUNCTION OF RIP
Rip sends out periodic routing updates every 30 sec
Rip uses metric for the selection of best path which is hope count
Rip sends out the full routing table every periodic updates
Rip uses the Bellman-Ford distance vector algorithm to determine the best path to a particular destination
Rip is class full routing protocol
RIP full update is limited by split horizon rule
Rip support IP and IPX routing
Rip utilizes UDP port 520
Rip administrative distance is 120
Rip have mix mum hope count is 15
Rip invalid timer is 180
Rip hold timer is 180
Rip flash timer is 240
Rip version one broadcast address is 255.255.255.255
Rip does not support VLSM
Rip does not support authentication
WHAT IS METRIC
The parameter with help of which we can select best path are called metric
WHAT IS HOPE COUNT
The number of routers (hopes) between a router and destination subnet are called hope count
WHAT IS CLASS FULL ROUTING
These are those protocol which have no subnet mask and only show network are called class full routing example is RIP
